Metropolitan Development was founded in 1989 by Richard P. Conley. After several years of commercial mortgage brokerage and a strong construction background, the time had come to venture into commercial real estate development. Metropolitan commenced its first development venture in Marquette University’s student housing.
After the completion of three multifamily projects, Metropolitan headed west and in 1995 began developing additional housing, mixed-use, and office buildings in the Wauwatosa area. Metropolitan constructed several multifamily projects, renovation, and new construction of various office projects. In 2003 Metropolitan acquired its current corporate headquarters, a 103,000 s.f. three-story office building in the Brookfield Lakes Office Park. In 2004 the firm, again, headed west and began the redevelopment of the Village of Brookfield corridor. The redevelopment consists of several mixed-use and multifamily projects.
Metropolitan is currently constructing Brookfield Junction Phase II in the Village of Brookfield with plans to further develop additional mixed-use projects in the immediate area.
The firm has partnered with a variety of municipalities and co-ventured on TIF funded projects for mixed-use and multifamily developments.
